Rock and Roll Hall of Fame '99 Inductees

started playing their music, much to the discontent of gospel traditionalists. IN 1971, son Pervis left to do military service and so his sister Yvonne filled in the gap. They switched to Stax records and earned many hits, but it wasn't until 1974 when they were recognised for "Let's Do It Again". Pops Staples drifted away in the eighties to perform solo and has released an album Father, Father recently.
  • Early influences:
    • Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys were Cajun Folk artists who inspired Motowners such as Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. They performed mainly in the 40's.
    • Charles Brown passed away in his sleep Jan. 21 of this year. He was a jazz legend who had profound effects on early rock by developing what he called the "West Coast cool blues" and will be sadly missed.
  • Non-performers:
    • George Martin was a producer for EMI, who backed up many groups, the most famous of which were the beatles. Much like Phil Spector, Martin took artists to a new level and was also a good composer. His jazz and classical influences went over big in the late 60's psychedelic scene. He has been knighted and is a member of the House of Lords. He recently released an assortment of Beatles songs covered by vaiour artists.

Well that's it! I'm sure you agree they're a talented group. Next week we'll take a more historical look at rock, so until then, rock on!
