There are a number of good book series that deal more with specific environment issues and leaders. The Our Endangered Planet Series from Lerner Publications has individual titles such as Antarctica, Groundwater, The Save Our Earth Series from Gloucester Press is aimed at younger readers and includes titles on Acid Rain, The Greenhouse Effect, TheOzone Layer, and Rainforest Destruction. (Grade 3+) An excellent biography series focusing on key figures in the environmental movement is Earth Keepers from Twenty-First Century Books. Right now the series includes biographies on David Brower, Rachel Carson, George Washingtonn Carver, Jacques Cousteau, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Chico Mendes, John Muir, Gaylord Nelson, and Theodore Roosevelt. (Grade 4+) Teaching Resources From Enviromental Education comes a number of different links to resources and activities for classroom use that were used for Earth Day 1999, but may give teachers and parents some ideas for this year too. Included are articles, activities, projects, and educational sites. Other activities to more specific environmental issues such as pollution, endangered species, energy and other concerns are just a click away in their ready-to-use index. DLTK's Earth Day Crafts has a number of activities geared towards smaller children, ages 2+.
