The True Meaning of Christmas: Part Two
"Snowball, what is Christmas?" she barked as he approached. "Christmas is a very special time," Snowball yapped. "Come on, I'll show you." Snowball trotted down the street. Misty was tired. "Not so fast, Snowball," she whined. "I'm only a puppy." "Sorry," Snowball barked. Misty and Snowball walked for a long time. Misty's short legs were getting so tired she thought she would fall down. Her paws were cold. It was getting dark. It seemed they were a long way from home. "Where are we going, Snowball?" she asked. "One more block," Snowball replied. The two dogs came to a park. Blue, red and green lights sparkled on the snow. "Is this Christmas?" Misty asked. "Just part of it," Snowball told her. "The true meaning of Christmas is on the other side of the park." The dogs ran across the park. They stopped at a small, wooden shed. It had no front. Inside, were a man and a woman. In a manger, with only straw for his bed, lay a baby. "Why aren't they moving?" asked Misty. "They're statues," Snowball explained. "They're not real." "This can't be Christmas," Misty barked. "It is," Snowball yapped. "I heard my owner talking. That baby represents the Christ Child. His name is Jesus. Christmas is His birthday. He was born to save mankind. Trees, presents, food, and sparkling lights are only part of Christmas. The real reason for Christmas is Jesus." Misty looked at the baby. He was smiling. His face glowed. A warm feeling filled Misty's heart. "Snowball, I believe you're right. Jesus is the true meaning of Christmas." Snowball and Misty walked home. Misty was happy. She barked at the door and Sarah let her in. "Misty, where have you been?" Sarah exclaimed. "I was afraid you were lost." Sarah picked Misty up and hugged her. Misty licked Sarah's face. She gave a loud woof! Sarah giggled. "I'm glad to see you too," she laughed. Misty felt good. She was very happy. She laid her head on Sarah's arm. Misty felt loved. She had learned the true meaning of Christmas. It was the Baby Jesus' birthday and she would help her family celebrate.
