Curse believers like to say that Winston donated the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian to be free of the curse; however, Winston publicly stated that he had always wanted to create a national jewel collection. He felt that his donation of the Hope Diamond might inspire others to donate gems as well. The Hope Diamond is now displayed in the National Gem and Mineral Collection in the National Museum of Natural History.

This is a fabulous article! I've always loved the lore surrounding the Hope diamond, but wow! You introduced so many new details. First, I didn't realize it had gone back that far and was over ...
