What about the famed Blackbeard treasure? When a crewman asked Blackbeard whether or not his wife knew where he had hidden his treasure, he answered that no one besides he and the devil knew its whereabouts; whichever of the two should live longer would get it all. However, after much searching, historians now believe there never was any treasure at all.
