Although saddened by the dog's death, Century announced that "the show must go on" and considered a replacement terrier for Brownie. However, it was decided that Peggy could hold her own on the big screen: stacks of fan mail addressed to "Baby Peggy" were accumulating in the home Peggy shared with her parents and sister. Sid Grauman had already featured her in a skit at his Million Dollar Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Baby Peggy's solo career had begun.
Masterminded by Alf Goulding, Peggy soon began performing slapstick comedies for the screen. Among these were scripts based on classic fairy tales, such as "Hansel and Gretel" and "Little Red Riding Hood". Peggy also performed parodies of social evils of the time: "yellow" journalists, unwed mothers, and bribe-taking politicians. Goulding also invented satires of screen stars in their most popular films -
Rudolph Valentino in "The Sheik", vampy Mae Murray in "Merry Widow", and Pola Negri in "Kiss Me, You Fool".
Due to these ingenious two-reel films, Baby Peggy soon became a successful movie star, paving the way for all child stars to come.
