Kashmir ("Come With Me") et tu Jimmy Page?

Anybody notice the historical irony here? I'm talking about the guitar lick that Puff Daddy jacked err had Jimmy Page REPRODUCE from the classic rock song "Kashmir" for his Godzilla sountrack song "Come With Me" which is now making waves on the charts. Here's the iront: Schoolly D had a MUCH better use of the song in an Abel Ferrara movie (think "King of New York"), but he was sued for the sample by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and the retailers had to pull all copies of the movie and album from the shelves..

ALONG comes Puff Daddy and says to Jimmy Page "Let's blow up this Godzilla thing and I'll give you a huge pile of cash to boot." Suddenly Kashmir is hip-hop again, albiet much wacker and much less cool... but Page is happy because he got PAYYYYYD. Apparently, Page doesn't hate rap, just PO' rappers who can't afford his exorbitant clearance fees.

This is exactly what's wrong with the music industry today, and Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz having to pay $100K for Steely Dan was/is the perfect example. Sampling is a fundamental part of hip-hop, but greedy motherfuckers are trying to choke it to death and take all the loot. The only ones who can afford the bankroll for a sample like "Kashmir" are the wack motherfuckers like Puff Daddy who don't DESERVE to use it.

I say Puff Daddy should get down on his knees and kiss Schoolly D's ass for being the first one to use it in a rap. Give the CREDIT where due.
