I'm GLAD Everybody Hates Canibus

© Steve Juon

"Your head'll spin so fast you'll catch whiplash I practice lyrical witchcraft on your b*tch-ass Make your hard drive crash to C colon backslash (C:/) Go back to the roots and reprogram your wack ass" --> Canibus on Wyclef Jean's "No Airplay"

I don't have a problem liking a rapper that everybody else hates. I don't think he's the second coming, the lyrical Jesus, or none of that hype and bullshit that wrongly got attached to every name from Keith Murray to Ras Kass to Nas Escobar. I just think that he's nice with his -- I like his voice, his delivery, and his flow. If you expect the world's greatest punchlines you wouldn't get them but he does come up with some nice surprises and I get open on his computeresque style hip-hop references.

"I pulverize MC's and blow up mics From street corner cyphers to international web sites" --> Canibus on _Rhyme & Reason's_ "Uni-4-Orm"

So let's roll out the posse and steamroll Canibus because he got a math concept wrong in his duet with Common and because he got a historical fact about Abraham Lincoln wrong. Get real -- a lot of people DO believe Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves; it's almost more commonplace than the fallacy cavemen and dinosaurs lived together. Why do you expect more of Canibus than you would of 98% of this country's populace? People are so desperate to pick him apart that they're taking the slightest little thing they can find and shredding him into tiny bits. Frankly that only makes me like him twice as much. I have yet to hear an appearance by him I found wack and he ALWAYS kicks something that gets me open when I listen.

"At a thousand degrees Celsius, I make MC's melt f*ck my record label, I appear courtesy of myself" --> Canibus on The Firm's "Desperados"

So go ahead, hate on him all you like because he's popular right now. If I had to pick an MC to be popular I'd much rather it be Canibus than DMX. DMX is without a single doubt the most ANNOYING rapper that I can possibly in a thousand years think of. Irr-ih-TA-TING!! If I hear him go from ONE STYLE, to the next, and BACK AGAIN, one more time, I think I'LL SCREAM!

Peace, Flash
