In My Lifetime, Vol. 1

Who's the Big Williest MC in rap? Jay-Z may be one of the few playalistic rappers who has a legitimate claim to his name and his fame. Z's Roc-a-Fella label has been both his entrepenurial venture for putting out other rappers as WELL as the home of his own hot releases; such as his debut on Priority Records "Reasonable Doubt" and his new album "In My Lifetime, Vol. 1".

To be fair, I've spent a lot of time criticizing playalystic rap styles, and this deserves to be pointed out. I even went so far as to say economic dollars shouldn't be pointed at the people who claim they're riding high on money, just to prove them wrong and see how flossy they can be without any sales to their name. Jay-Z though has nothing to fraud or perpetrate as a self-made man, and has always tried to keep his game "next level" ahead of the shit everybody else is doing.

"I was wearing platinum when y'all thought it was silver and shit; drinking champagne when y'all thought it was beer and shit"

Does it work? Jay-Z's knack for details is what makes his style stick, and that doesn't neglect pointing out that "The Hustle" has a darker side as well. He's the 90's equivalent of Kool G Rap in a real sense, whereas Nas as the 90's version of Rakim turned out to be a huge and horrible dissapointment.

Even though Jay-Z has blown up like Bill Gates, his style hasn't changed at all. That's what earned him the most respect -- he gets crazy props for kicking the same rhyme style and same lyrical ability as he did before; and now with Def Jam he can get better distribution for his fly shit. It's hard to playa hate Jay-Z. The only thing I'm mad about is that Def Jam hasn't reissued his Priority debut because you can't find Reasonable Doubt ANYWHERE.

Peace, Flash
