Have you been looking for that Notorious
B.I.G. CD single for a long time and can't find it in the store because they don't
like rap? Or maybe you wanted something
a little more obscure like a Cage or an
MF Doom vinyl 12" -- well, the internet
may be your answer. Herein, I rate three
different online music services for the
heads out there fiending for the hip-hop.
+ wide selection of obscure vinyl records + FirstVirtual payments accepted (secure online credit card transaction) + will accept trades or vinyl for credit - slow delivery time - usually do not carry compact discs - no search option For the most part, I've been happy with the orders I made via Sandbox. I've been able to pick up some hard to find items like Buckshot's "I Ain't No Joke" single and Boogie Down Productions's "Jack of Spades/Still #1" vinyl twelve inch. My current and biggest gripe is that it took four weeks for them to deliver my Company Flow CD (the first time to my knowledge they have ever stocked a CD) and the backordered J-Live twelve inch I wanted was not included in the package. I'll post a followup later to let the heads know whether or not this was resolved. Music Boulevard: http://www.musicblvd.com + very nice site design and layout + search option to find artists or albums + a large stock of CD's and tapes - no vinyl - obscure rap artists are not stocked - prices tend to run market to higher If you're looking for a convenient way to pick up the latest hip-hop CD's on major labels, especially if you live in a hip-hop starved area, Music Boulevard. You can either pay immediately with credit card or delayed via a check, and they'll ship it right to your address. You may pay a little more than you would at WalMart, but then again WalMart wouldn't carry it anyway. CD Connection: http://www.cdconnection.com + good layout + great selection of imports, obscures + efficient delivery - "restocking" fee if you cancel an order - poor search (classical, non-classical) - doesn't clearly explain album contents The first online ordering service I ever used; originally a telnet address that you would connect to and place orders. I managed to pick up some really nice shit at good prices through this site, including _Ready to Die_ for $11 and _Nation of Millions_ for $9 on CD. The delivery time is the best of any service I've used - every shipment arrived within two weeks or less. My only gripe is that I cancelled an order of Wild Pitch's Greatest Hits less than 24 hours after I placed it and they still charged me a restocking fee. Other than that, a good place to spend your hip-hop dollar. Go To Page: 1 2
