'The Body' slams home an electionThe biggest upset in yesterday's political elections was the one nobody expected to come true or even remotely conceived of as being possible: Jesse 'The Body' Ventura, former professional wrestler (professional as in the WWF) turned politician, WON the election for governor in Minnesota on the Reform Party ticket (Ross Perot's party). Pundits have been left scratching their heads, while a victorious Ventura has been all grins while telling reporters that his new nickname is in fact 'The Mind'. More to the point (and keeping this on topic with the forum) the stunning Ventura victory got me thinking -- Davey D was right. D was talking a while back about rappers running as political candidates, and if Ventura can pull off a win as a third party outsider, why can't Cube or Chuck D? We know that rap artists appeal to young voters and minorities, and with a rational intelligent platform they could also get swing moderates looking for something fresh outside of the two-party system. It really COULD happen. Imagine what Chuck D could do as a Senator. Hell I'd watch C-Span every day just to pray he stumps on an issue. Listening to him speak is.. electrifying. Either as a rapper or as a lecture tour speaker. He's ULTRA-magnetic in the truest sense of the word -- at least to me. I'd vote for the Chuck D platform, who here wouldn't? What better way to 'Fight the Power' than put our spokesmen, the same rappers who articulate the issues that concern us all so well, to the battle forum against the same crusty white men who made the stupid laws in the first place? Peace, Flash
