Its' Bigger Than Hip Hop - Part 1

Please bear with me...this has been building up a long time....

On 9/11, the world as we knew it ceased to exist. I don't know how you feel about 9/11, but to me, it was a wake up call.

THIRD EYE: Look at all the historical events we've witnessed in such a short period of time: the impeachment of Bill Clinton, the fiasco of election 2000, not to mention, for the first time in the history of the United States, the Supreme Court selected our president.

Combine all that with 9/11 and subsequent events: the vilification of Islam, the killings of thousands of innocent Afgans, the rescinding of our civil rights, racial profiling of arabic men and more...did i fail to mention they think the next batch of terrorists will be black or asian...hmmmm.

Now there's Enron, the largest bankruptcy in the history of the United States. This is the same Enron that banked Bush's run for the White House by donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to his campain, allowing Bush the use of their private plane and the same Enron that paid for the Bush team of attorney's down in Florida. The same Enron that Dick Cheney met with and now won't disclose what they spoke about.

All coincidences? Maybe, maybe not.

Attempts to investigate these happenings are continuously rebuffed...mostly by Republicans

...meanwhile, back in the rap world everyone is silent on these issues. It will be interesting to see how these events are incorporated into the lyrics of artists such as KRS-One, Public Enemy, Dead Prez, The Coup and Mos Def...and even more so to see what affects, if any these events have on hardcore artists such as Master P and Kurupt...will they stick to the "money, hoes and clothes" raps that put them on, or will they use their voice and speak out? Time will tell.

Next month we put the rap world on frontstreet and ask hip hoppers how they feel about 9/11 and subsequent events...
