While reading my guestbook at planet-hiphop.com, a post came to my attention, and how could it not; imagine a page filled with text messages from well wishers and in the midst, blam!!!! Dreadfully Slick. Clicking on his banner opened the door to some of the dopest illustrations I've seen in a while. As hip hoppers we often get caught up in the audio or video aspects of culture, overlooking a new breed of street philosophers: the hip hop illustrator, who instead of using a mic, uses a pen to express political and social issues as well as provide works (as with the music) for strictly entertainment purposes. Check 'em out! The Boondocks - The official site for The Boondocks, hip-hop's first nationally distributed comic strip. Their website includes an intro to the Boondocks and the illustrator Aaron Mc Gruder, character profiles, comic strips, and news. If your local newspaper doesn't carry The Boondocks, you can find a link to the current strip on my main page or go here for today's and/or archived strips. Gettosake Comics - Gettosake.com is an entertainment site featuring online cartoon movies and comics for the hip hop generation. Site has a pretty phat flash intro that forwards you to the main page: tight beats fused with eye catching illustrations. Don't leave without checkin' their live animations listed under webisodes. Home-e G Comics - Homeetoons and Home-e G present cartoons of hip-hop star Home-e G and his posee. A maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad creative simple comic that proves you don't have to be a picasso to be a comic book illustrator: stick figure hommies combined with a straightforward storylines make for a pretty dope script. Chilltown Online - Chilltown Online is the home of Chilltown Comics and TV. Featuring the best in scathing urban humor. Where MAD is scared to go. Shockwave and Real Player required. Dreadfully Slick Headachestreet - Headache Street, a Hip-Hop, graffiti-based animated Go To Page: 1 2
