The Rap Life - Entry #1: An Intro to Lou Brocc aka MexiCali Slim© Lou Brocc aka MexiCali Slim
I don't even know why they ask me to do this shit. I mean,I'm a rapper, ya' dig? I do enough writing as it is, but I guess the folks over at Blueberry Hill a couple of months ago and asked me would I be interested in participating in a project they were piecing together. I was like "yeah, fo' sho', get at me." Once they explained to me that
they wanted an up and coming rapper to provide inside information on the "rap life" it was all good. So, here I am, no holds barred, because as you know, the whole culture of
hip-hop is no holds barred. I'm here to give it to you rough, rugged and raw like Petey Wheatstraw,'ya dig. Hopefully, when it's over (trust me, I don't know when it's going to
be, I may track the rest of my existence with the whole world) you will get a glimpse of the rap life and hip-hop culture in which we (rappers, artists, entertainers, etc.) live. Pure,
unadulterated funk, fo' sho. So, without future ado, let us get this shit started.
For me it was a simple decision. After hearing "Gimme What'cha Got" back in '97 I was like damn, that's some cool shit. See, I was doing my thing (living, hustling for the real-nigga impaired) out in Kansas City in '97 and when I heard that song at this club out there, I lost it. I'm a Saint Louis representer and "STL this, STL that" was my motto my whole time in the KCMO area, so that song was kinda like my muthafuckin' anthem when I hit themKC streets, ya' dig? Anyway, I had a lil' breezy from the crib send me and copy of the single and low and behold, who do I see on the cover? That's right, muthafuckin' Nelly, my shortstop back in the muthafuckin' day. See I'm a SouthSide nigga, but my people lived in U. City and when I was a shorty I used to visit the U all the time. Never for real got in the streets out Go To Page: 1 2
