b-gYrl.com (okay, I admit being a female makes me a little biased, but these
b-gyrls jam!). This station features the new generation of female emcees: Deadly
Venoms (the Women of Wu-Tang Clan), Shining
Star, Vika, Rha
Goddess, Belle Mofia,
and many others; everyone from No Limit's Mia X to unknown and up and coming
female artists. Other b-gyrl stations worth checking out are Female MC Week, The
b-gYrl Hotline (live freestyle and spoken word performances), WOMP3:
Women of MP3.com in Hip Hop (official guide to female hip hop) and
Essentials Women of Hip Hop.
When you're done perusing the stations you might want to browse the artist pages. MP3.com hosts thousands, if not tens of thousands of hip hop artist pages and it's a good thing they simplified the browsing process by allowing user friendly navigation whether browsing by name or region. Their artist pages are broken down by city, county or village in the world. If browsing gets too overwhelming, I suggest trying a search by artist, similar artist, genre name or region. Whatever you do don't leave MP3.com without reading the hip hop bulletin boards; it's where networking and a&r meets the young and the restless. Something's always going on, whether it's independent labels looking for a new artist, station managers looking for music to feature or unproven mcs looking for a battle. You never know what's going to show up on the boards. That completes my list of the best hip hop on MP3.com, what's yours? Email me and I'll use it in an upcoming feature. Feel free to join me in discussions on hip hop at MP3.com as well. I'm Digable.Part II - Hip Hop at IUMA Go To Page: 1 2
