I got an email from a mom requesting information on the history of hip hop
for her daughter who was doing a research paper for school. My first instinct
was to suggest she browse my collection of hip hop history links and imagine my
surprise when I realized I didn't have a collection of hip hop history links. So
here it is, better late than never, Hip Hop Suite 101's collection of links on
the history of hip hop music, culture and politics. I want to thank this mom
(who I'll call Cindy) for bringing this to my attention. And please, if you see me
sleepin' on anything else, let me know and if it's humanly possible, I'm on it!
A brief history of hip hop and the four elements that fuse to create it: emceeing, deejaying, breaking and graffiti. A good place to start for a 5 minute crash course on hip hop culture. The History Of Rap/Hip Hop Hip-Hop: Its Roots
and Its Future Life
