From time to time I receive emails requests seeking advice from aspiring artists looking to break into the rap game. I've been asked everything from how to promote and market one's self online, to how to get set up with an online distribution deal. I'm not going to give you the traditional "how to shop your demo" speech...why bother? Do you know anyone that's worked for? It's Y2K and "out with the old" and "in with the new". Time to do something different. Those of you who know me know I'm into challenging the industry, so it probably won't come to you as a surprise that I'm going to give you the downlow on how to eliminate the middlemen (labels, record stores, etc.) and "put yourself on".

Online Promotion

Addme.com is a free service that lets you submit your website to the 30 most popular search engines and directories on the web. Once you're listed in the search engines, head over to Putmeon.com, a good resource which will "put you on" by displaying your bio, photo, link to your website and even post a couple of your tracks in the Unsigned MC's &Underground Hip-Hop section. Check my list of artist directories for other web directories, most of which will give hook you up with the same. Online
