Fit
With hiking socks on, boots should feel snug in the heel. Your heel should not lift up or move freely. If it does, I
guarantee blisters. In the toe region, leave yourself some wiggle room. Walk around inside the store at least 10 or
15 minutes to identify any sensitive spots or rubbing. It's better to find out a pair of boots doesn't fit in the store than
out on a mountain. I highly recommend visiting a reputable outdoor outfitter to purchase your boots. If the store sells basketballs and football jerseys, you probably don't want to buy hiking boots there. EMS http://www.emsonline.com/ and REI http://www.rei.com/ have a good selection and competent staffs to fit you properly to the right style boot. Break In Once you've selected your hiking boots, stroll around the neighborhood plenty before hitting the trail. Break in time
is important, and the boots should feel comfortable before you subject your hooves to heavy pounding. Also, waterproofing with a silicone treatment can soften boot leather and add to comfort levels (and keep your tootsies dry).
