Introduction
The Garden of the Gods is an absolutely beautiful park with red rock formations rising high into the sky. This hike is a stroll through a huge rock garden. It is not strenuous; it is breathtaking. You will want to sit on the rock walls and take in the views. I recommend this hike for all children. The walks through the center of the park are paved sidewalks, so even toddlers can handle this one with ease. Keep your dogs carefully leashed to avoid a ticket. What to Bring You must bring your camera. Dress warmly and layer your clothing well for this strolling hike. My children and I toured through Garden of the Gods when we first moved to Colorado. It had just snowed and we were taking pictures to send to friends and family. It was eight degrees and we were well bundled up, but we quickly discovered how the cold mountain wind rushes through the Garden of the Gods park. If you hike this park in the summer, don't be surprised to see people taking wedding pictures. The Garden of the Gods is spectacularly beautiful. As I was hiking through the park last year, I came around a bend and was surprised to find I was walking through bubbles! I turned another corner and discovered a full wedding party with bubble blowers. How to Get There From Colorado Springs, take the Garden of the Gods exit from I-25 and drive west (hint: the mountains are west). Travel to the end of the street where it bisects 30th Street. Turn left onto 30th and drive over a little rise and around a bend. You will see high-rising rocks of Garden of the Gods almost immediately. Turn right into the Garden of the Gods park at the sign. Caution! As you travel into the Garden of the Gods park, the road splits and circles the park. At the split the road is a one-way road and you will have to circle the entire park to return. Follow the signs and you will do just fine. There are several parking lots. Please keep your speed to the posted limits (20 MPH as of this writing) because there are numerous bikers and joggers along the marked side of the road. The twists and turns of the road may hide them from your view. Trail Specifics Although there are numerous trails around and through Garden of the Gods park, the center of the park has a paved sidewalk through it. This is marvelous for anyone who wants to be outside but can't generally travel over rough terrain. It is also excellent for very small people in strollers and visitors of any age who may not be accustomed to the altitude. This hike is gentle and easy, I promise.
