Recommendations Most applications require at least two recommendations, one from your guidance counselor and one from a teacher. Some require more. Ask the teachers whom you have done the best work for and whom you know the best. You may also want to submit a recommendation from a non-teacher adult (as long as they are not your relative!) with whom you have worked on a community service project, a club, or a sports team. If there is anything you want you recommendors to highlight -- such as your drive, academic improvement, or leadership skills - just ask.

Supplemental Materials Many applications ask that you submit supplemental materials. If they ask for a resume, make sure that it is done professionally (for tips, see a Suite101 site about resumes. Other materials you may want to include are a sample of your academic work (send a graded copy of your best recent essay), some creative writing, slide of artwork, music recordings, video tapes of performances, and samples of award-winning projects.

Most of all, remember to have fun. The application process should not be a huge source of stress and it should enable you to see if you like the schools to which you are applying. Good luck!
