Financing Higher Education

to twenty hours a week in class. Many students have time to work ten to twenty hours a week as well. Even if you can only work five hours a week, think about what six dollars an hour, five hours a week adds up to. It will certainly pay for your books and supplies. Also remember that college students get a lot of time off, including a large part of the winter holiday rush (get a job wrapping presents at the nearby mall), and three to four MONTHS in the summer. Working full-time during this period can bring in good money. Work with your campus career services office to find a good position -- some companies will pay current students over fifteen dollars an hour, in hopes of attracting future employees. With that kind of money, you can make over $5,000 in a summer. If you don't have any job opportunities near where you live, your campus may have scholarships available for living or traveling expenses during the summer. Ask around.
