Thinking, Fasting
and Waiting . . .

When audiophiles are not satisfied with the sound they get, they are presented with a number of options:

Some "optimize" equipment by altering its location and topology (which costs them nothing), others consider an upgrade (starting saving money that means), but out there exists a tiny but dynamic, minority that uses a hands-on approach.

It may sound unbelievable but there are engineers who became what they are — er . . . engineers ;-) — because they wanted to learn the science of their hobby in order to produce improve stuff and make more productive use of their creative time.

But what happens when an audiophile Medical Doctor, decides to design a new amplifier?

Why am I asking such a question?Well, a few months ago I was approached by a Doctor from Cyprus who, having read my "opinions on hi-fi," told me about his Topology Amplifier (Palaris Topology Amplifier), while he faxed the measurements of his amplifiers. He also included an engineering report by Mike Coloms, a reputable audio & electronics consultant, technical journalist and reviewer in Britain (and worldwide).

I have to say that I was impressed by the efforts of my compatriot MD. But it appeared that more than 40 top audio companies worldwide were not. When you meet brilliance, and it all looks like that you are the only one to "see" it, you start wondering if you are mad, weird etc. Yes, fine, let me proclaim my uniqueness, and difference from the rest of you (which, by the way, is the way 90% of the population feels — although it usually behaves in a handful of patterns). These measurements are figures, graphs and curves (of the objective kind!).

I haven't heard to the piece myself but, since Mr. Coloms has heard and praised it (and this time I can be sure that he received no presents — be it advertising, sponsoring deals, etc., to mellow the sound of the subject of his investigation) PTA must be something truly outstanding.

So what has happened to prevented 40 top audio equipment manufacturers from finding time to answer the letter of the inventor of PTA? I will tell you. The PTA was patented and since it was patented its specification will soon be revealed which means any one can copy it or alter it. Then it will be the inventors responsibility to find which amplifier uses his design, and ask for compensation (if of course he can prove it in Court).
