Seeds of Season Seven?
Welcome back friends, for another scintillating week of Xena discussion! September is upon us, the kids are heading back to school, and the buzz about the upcoming sixth season is starting to build on websites and mailing lists all over the world. Because of the Olympic Games, the premiere of Xena's sixth season will be held off until October, making this long period of Xena Withdrawal Syndrome even harder to bear.
I don't really think of myself as an online celebrity when it comes to Xena fandom - certainly not in the same league as people like Kym Taborn (of Whoosh!) or the no-longer-present Tom Simpson. Every so often, however, I am reminded of my status in the online Xenaverse. I do have a minor following of sorts, and this little crew drops little bits and pieces of news and trivia my way.
In addition, as the writer of a regular Xena column, I get messages from various other people in the net Xenaverse asking questions, passing along news, and various other miscellany. It is one of those miscellaneous messages I'd like to talk about today.
Last weekend I received an e-mail from a guy by the name of Ben Szumskyj (don't ask - I have no idea how to pronounce it). It was an electronic petition to be sent to the producers of Xena: Warrior Princess asking for the show to be renewed for a seventh season. Here's an excerpt from it:
A full Season Six has been issued, yet at the moment this will be the last Season of the Warrior Princess. There are those who feel strongly against closing the door on the greatest fantasy show ever, and hope that the possibility of a Season Seven could occur.Robert Tapert (part Creator, Producer and husband of Lucy Lawless) has admitted if the faith is strong, that he would be willing to extend the show to a Seventh Season. Lucy herself said she would have no qualms doing an extra Season at all.
Therefore, I am pleading will all fans of Xena, whether you have been there from the beginning, left the show for a period of time, or an new dedicated fan, to sign the following Petition. By taking part in this, and through enough signatures, we could have the chance and ability to make a dream become reality, and ensure that a Season Seven will go ahead.
