And the Nominees Are...Hello again friends! Your friendly neighborhood columnist here, eagerly anticipating the final episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. The season so far has been pretty solid, indeed, it seems to me they have returned to the roots of the series. But that is the subject for my next column, after the whole thing has wrapped up. Many of you may already know this, but I have spent the past several weeks collecting nominations for The Century Awards, a celebration of the best of one hundred episodes of Xena: Warrior Princess. The nomination stage closed up about two weeks ago, and I have the final tallies all figured out. I present them here for your edification. If you want to join in the fun for this fan celebration, just point your browser to http://www.geocities.com/xenavote read the instructions, and cast your vote! The final ballot will be available until early January, when the voting will close and the winners announced! All set? I hope so, cause here they are, the Century Award nominees, as chosen by you, the fans! Best Comedy 319 votes were tallied in this category, and 23 different episodes were nominated. The nominees are: "A Day in the Life", "In Sickness and in Hell", "Fins, Femmes and Gems", and "Been There, Done That". There was one surprising nominee, the Hercules episode "Stranger and Stranger". Best Drama 320 votes were tallied in this category, and 35 different episodes were nominated. The nominees are: "The Ides of March", "One Against an Army", "The Debt", and "Maternal Instincts". Best Overall Episode 308 votes were tallied for 48 different episodes. It was a tight run, but the nominees are: "The Bitter Suite", "The Ides of March", "A Day in the Life", and "The Debt". Worst Episode 279 votes were tallied for 58 different episodes. With the dust settled from this one, the nominees are: "Key to the Kingdom", "King Con", "Ulysses", and "In Sickness and In Hell". Isn't it interesting that "In Sickness..." has made it to the finals in this category and Best Comedy? I guess that one provokes strong feelings one way or another. Most Underrated Episode This was a category I was very interested in seeing the results for. In many of the others I was able to predict fairly well how things would fall out, but this one caught me completely off guard. There were 274 votes tallied for 77 different episodes -- that's more than three fourths of the total episodes in the series! And the nominations were all over the map, too. Four episodes did pull out ahead of the pack though, and they are: "Deja Vu All Over Again", "One Against an Army", "The Bitter Suite", and "In Sickness and In Hell" (that, incidentally, makes three categories for that episode).
