Growing Dill Dill is usually grown as a hardy annual and is quite easy to grow from seed or transplant planted in Spring, and thinned to about 8 inches apart. Dill is similar in appearance to Fennel (although Fennel grows quite a bit taller) with light, feathery leaves branching from an average 2 foot high stalk. In Midsummer, Dill gives an attractive show with flat umbels of yellow flo>‡m, and the entire plant gives off a pleasant scent. The fruit - what most of us call the Dill seed - are plentiful on healthy plants. If live in a mild climate, healthy Dill plants can be maintained for up to three years, then you'll need to replace them. Magical Use An herb of Mercury, Dill is associated with Masculine and Fire energies. It can be used as protection when worn or carried. Due to its abundant nature, Dill has been used as an addition to prosperity work. Added to the bath or eaten, Dill is also used as an aphrodisiac.
