Schring-Plough, the manufacturing company of product Rebetron which is the current form of Hepatitis C therapy, has made a commitment to the patients that are considering combination therapy or have already begun treatment. They have two programs that assist the patients during their time of need. The Be In Charge™ Program gives support to Chronic hepatitis B and C patients who are taking REBETRON Combination Therapy or INTRON A therapy. It helps them deal with many medical, personal and financial issues. The program support network does include a Personal Nurse Counselor who will call the patient once every month to check on the treatment progress and discuss any concerns that may have arisen. This program also provides a Be in Charge™ workbook named: A Guide to Living With Chronic Hepatitis B & C, and Coaching Booklets for the patients who have close friends, family members, or coworkers who want to learn more about what they're going through, or who want to take a more active role in the Hepatitis C patient's treatment. This booklet is also very convenient to pass around rather than have the patient continuously repeat every detail of their treatment to each and every person interested. Patients can receive a Patient Therapy Management Binder that provides a place to keep phone numbers, notes, and paperwork and includes valuable reference information, a free 10-minute phone card, and a 12-month calendar to track therapy and important related appointments. Schering's COMMITMENT TO CARE Program is Schering Oncology/Biotech's drug reimbursement assistance program for all eligible patients taking either REBETRON Combination Therapy or INTRON A therapy, whether they enroll in the Be In Charge™ support program or not. Schering is committed to ensuring that individuals have access to life-saving therapies regardless of their ability to pay. Since its inception in September 1995, COMMITMENT TO CARE has helped over 36,000 patients by providing reimbursement assistance for their medication.
