Rikets Interview

Rikets is a new band, but their members are anything but rookies. They've been in groups such as Switched, Erase The Grey and Chaimaira. After forming a couple years back, they went through a few lineup changes, and the band's current members are vocalist Scott Rose, guitarists Bradley Kochmit and Ken Obloy, drummer Angel, keyboardist Chan Leffel, bass player Joshua Jansen, and Matt Haze on samples/vocals. Rikets debut EP Anything For The Devil was produced by Switched vocalist Ben Schigel (Drowning Pool, Chimaira, Breaking Point) and released on Corporate Punishment Records.

Chad Bowar: How did the band get together?

Scott Rose: I don't remember, it just seems like it was supposed to happen. One day we were all hanging as friends and the next day were all jamming together.

How would you describe your sound to someone that's not familiar with Rikets?

Pure, unadulterated, mechanical/industrial horror metal.

How did you hook up with Corporate Punishment?

Thom has always been a close friend and he's been my manager for the past 6 years. When he started CPR, I wanted to work with him because the dude is a workaholic like me.

How was is working with producer Ben Schigel?

Amazing. Same scenario I've been working with Ben for almost six years on different projects and I just knew when we were writing this music he was the only choice to produce. How cool is it to have your producer as one of your closest friends, ya' know?

Does having 7 members cause any problems as far as being able to all fit on stage in small venues or anything else?

Well some times. We haven't really played to many smaller venues because of that issue. There are 7 of us so we need the room. Plus the sound reinforcement; most smaller clubs can't accommodate our live set up. All the production and what not.

What are your expectations for the EP when it's released?

For me to have a bunch of expectations for this E.P would make me sound arrogant. I think simply because this is our first national release and I just want the opportunity to make a dent in the industry, so for me to come out and say, "I want a million dollars" or "I want to be the biggest band in the world" would just make me vomit. I hate hearing that from new artists.

What are your goals for the band?

It's just time to go to work, that's all. What you can expect from us is that were gonna throw down every show. We're gonna write some bad ass tunes and we're not gonna stop.
