Chad Bowar: How did Thine Eyes Bleed get together?
Justin Wolfe: My previous band (Acacia) had been touring with Jeff's previous band (Kittie), Darryl our drummer was teching at the time with Acacia and Johnny was teching with Kittie, so that is how our friendship came together. Jeff and I had been talking about starting the fastest, heaviest band we could when we had some time off at home... sure enough we did. We joined up with Darryl and Dave (now ex- guitarist) and got Luke from Acacia on bass. We did some demos and things started to pick up. As time went on Luke and Dave left at different times for their own reasons and we acquired Johnny Araya and Derek Ward. Ever since then things have really come together.
How'd you come up with the band name?
Jeff had a lot to do with this one. It actually started in Texas with some fans of Jeff while he was with Kittie, they had asked him what he would call his own project and he spit out "Thine Eyes Bleed!" Next time through, kids had thine eyes bleed shirts made up, before we were even a band. When it came down to naming our project we just went with it.
Talk about the sound of the new album.
It's a very fast paced, brutal, in your face kind of album... you are either going to like it or not. I think that it's a debut that will leave an impression, with much more to come.
How have the early reviews/response been?
The early reviews are actually coming back really positive! We have had very few negative comments which is always great. As far as response live we couldn't ask for more. With the album not even out yet the fans have been amazing!
What inspired the lyrics for this album?
A lot of things actually. The lyrics a lot of times just come on a day to day basis. When I am inspired I will sit down and write. I like to write from the heart and dig deep inside myself. The album has a lot to do with depression, struggle, pain, loss, love. We have all been through a lot together and we have all made many sacrifices to get where we are, through the many ups and downs. The lyrics are just my way of letting it all out.
