HavocHate Interview

HavocHate is back with a new approach and several new members. They found new frontman Tim Bouchee in the want ads at a music store. Also new to the band is former Testament bass player Greg Christian. Guitarist Freddy Ordine also produced Cycle Of Pain. As you'll read, the band went through a lot while making this album.

Chad Bowar: Talk about the sound of Cycle Of Pain.

Freddy Ordine: I think it was just a natural growth that had to happen. I have changed a lot from when we wrote the first record, then you add a totally different singer and bassist and write with 2 guitars in mind and it all changes. This record for me was the hardest yet most rewarding. It kind of forced us to open up.

How has the band evolved musically since the last album?

When you add someone like Greggy, he brings way more to any situation than just being a great bass player. There is a certain level of professionalism that he refuses to work beneath so he pushes everyone really hard to be the best they can be and nothing less. Tim has added so much depth to the music. It was so refreshing to have the ability to write whatever was in my mind and not have to worry if he could sing it or not. The guy is amazing ,he can do it all. And Mario is like an extension of me. There are certain parts on the record I can't tell if it's me or him playing and I mixed the record. That's how tight we play together.

How did you decide on the album title?

There was so much negative shit going on during the writing and recording of this record we never thought we would get it finished. Tim's wife had passed, a guy who helped put our record deal together was just totally fucking with us and relationships we had built with various people. Ovie had gotten into some legal problems he had to deal with. I was on and off the wagon more times than I care to remember. It has been a fucked up year! Things would start going great and just fall to shit a couple of days later. That cycle just kept coming around and around.

What inspired the lyrics for this album?

Like I had said Tim's wife had passed, so there are definitely elements of that all over the record. Hate, pain, and more hate!
