growls to melodic singing. His voice is powerful and has much more range than their previous vocalist. The musical depth and variety on Miss Machine are nothing short of astounding. Hardcore, punk, industrial, metal and other influences are combined into a great album.

And the best metal album of 2004 is:

1. Shadows Fall - The War Within (Century Media)
Talk about a quantum leap. 2002's The Art Of Balance was a good album, but Shadows Fall has taken it to a whole new level with The War Within. Brian Fair's vocals are much improved, and the band's musical mixture of thrash, hardcore, Scandinavian and traditional metal is eclectic and very well done. This album is a great combination of old school and new school influences and deserves the title of the best metal album of 2004.
