The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is going strong here in the Black Hills of South Dakota, bringing hundreds of thousands of bikers to the area. It also means great concerts at various venues across the Black Hills. One of those concerts is the Rock Never Stops tour, featuring Slaughter, Kip Winger, Warrant and Whitesnake. I recently spoke to Slaughter's lead singer, Mark Slaughter.
It's great. Response has been good, and we've had some great reviews of our band. It's all positive. With many metal bands breaking up in the mid 90s, how has Slaughter managed to stay together since 1989? I think the key is that we write, we produce and perform our own music. There are a lot of groups who don't do that. It gives us musical freedom. With being older and having a family, is it difficult to go on the road? No, it's just a love you have, something you enjoy doing. It's a great way to get out there and get all those emotions out that you need to get out. Your first two CDs, Stick It To Ya and The Wild Life have just been re-released. What new things on on those CDs? Our demos that we had as we were putting the songs together in the studio. We ended putting those on these CDs. We wanted to do something special for the fans as opposed to just having it digitally remastered. We redid the liner notes, too. Capitol was great in getting us involved. We got a chance to be a part of this, and it was really nice. Do you have plans to record another studio CD in the near future? Our plans are to continue to write and possibly put something out next year. How did you get involved in singing on the Randy Rhoads tribute CD a couple years back? A lot of these guys I've known for years that do these types of things, and they got in touch with me. In fact, I just did another one for a Kiss tribute that's going to be out later this year. I sang "Cold Gin". It's fun to be a part of that and do what you love doing. I'm a music fan just like everybody else. What are some of the favorite tours you've been on over the years? We've been lucky to play with Kiss, Ozzy, Poison, Warrant, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, the list goes on. We've been able to play the rock and roll of our genre. It's been a pleasure and an honor to grace the stage with those people. Go To Page: 1 2
