Iann Robinson Interview

robinson.JPG
Iann Robinson is the face of hard rock and heavy metal on MTV, and behind the scenes fights to get as much exposure as possible for those type of bands on the network. He is all over MTV and MTV2, covering stories for MTV News and interviewing artists of all genres. In addition to his MTV duties, Robinson is a musician himself. He's the drummer for Puny Human, who have just released their second album.

As you'll see from reading the interview below, with Iann Robinson what you see is what you get. He's extremely knowledgeable about music and many other topics, funny, straightforward, and is not afraid to say what is on his mind. That's the reason he's so respected in the metal community, even though MTV doesn't always garner that same respect. Here's the interview with Iann Robinson, uncut, no B.S., and very interesting:

Chad Bowar: What projects are you currently working on for MTV and MTV2?

Iann Robinson: Well, daily news is an on-going thing, we're always trying to get the best stuff out there, which is sometimes frustrating because stuff that maybe our viewers love is not always something I believe in but you gotta do some compromising sometimes. Right now I'm finishing up a program call The Assignment With Iann Robinson, which is a show I do from time to time that delves a little deeper into certain subjects. This one is on Paparazzi and the whole celebrity obsession in America.

I'm also on The Wrap, this news show I do with Gideon Yago, about cool or interesting stories that happened throughout the week in the news. Now that summer's here I'll be busy covering a lot of the big summer concerts which is always fun, I get to see a lot of friends I've made that I don't get to hang with much because they're on tour or whatever.

How did you get your gig at MTV?

I used to have a cable access show with my two best friends Josh and Jason Diamond in NYC called Monkey Butt Sex. The show was basically us ragging on CDs or movies or whatever we had an opinion about, good or bad. . This dude Ocean Macadams used to watch us while he was in college and when he came to power at MTV he arranged an audition for me, it took about three years but I finally got the job.
