Personality in the Midwest


The following ideas I have added to my garden, so that when people come to my garden they can see my personality coming out in my garden beds:

1. We have a well that is no longer working so my husband was going to push it in and fill the hole in. As he was getting ready to do this, an idea popped into my mind. Hey, that twelve foot round cement well lid with the built in man hole cover would add character to my garden bed. So, much to his dismay he lifted it up with his boom truck to haul it to my garden bed. Also, at the bottom of the well were over one hundred gray bricks. We picked up the bricks and I am going to lay them to make a path from my lawn through my garden to the well cover. On the well cover I will sit a fifty cent garage sale garden chair.

2. I enjoy bunny collecting. No, I don't collect the bunnies that nibble off my newly planted flowers but the ceramic, metal or wooden bunnies. I have collected many of these garden bunnies through the years to place in various areas of my garden. Some are sitting bunnies, one is swinging on a tire swing and another one is a bunny bird house. When people see my bunnies in various places throughout my gardens, they definitely know that this is my garden due to my hobby of collecting bunnies for both outside and inside of our home.

3. Don't haul those old tree stumps and logs away to the dump. Use them in your garden beds. After a severe winter storm my husband cut up twenty wooden stepping stones for me out of a tree that had fallen during the storm. I dug the tweleve inch pieces of wood down approximately two inches into the dirt and mulched around them. They serve as a great garden path. Plus, they cost me nothing. I also, used a storm damaged tree stump to mount some plastic butterflies on that my friend was going to throw away. I spray painted them bright red and planted bee balm around the tree stump. I included a bird bath that my folks gave us for an anniversary present ten years ago. The butterflies love this area. Another use for tree stumps is flower pots. We had a huge
