Writers need to persevere and be patient in their quest to being a success. To be a writer it takes more than being in the right place at the right time. As you continue on the way to finding fame with your writing, you'll seek good connections and advice from others to obtain knowledge for long lasting success.
Writer's conferences aren't all the same. I was impressed by this list of speakers before I even traveled to the small town of Sparks, NV. Since I was staying in Downtown Reno, at the Sands Regency Casino. Both mornings I took two city buses each way to the John Ascuaga's Nugget Resort Hotel. Due to the fact I arrived early I was able to see a bit of the lounge and I headed up to the convention area. I was greeted at the door by Kathleen Berry she was seated at the registration desk. She works at the Truckee Community College. Kathleen asked my name and handed me a badge and a folder from the college. Then she pointed over to a nearby table where hot coffee and tea were made available to each guest. I thanked her for the early morning coffee, and proceeded to sit down. I located a vacant seat up front, as I am hearing impaired and wanted to sit up close to allow myself to hear more clearly. I then put my folder and jacket on the seat and rushed over to pour myself a cup of Java. Another guest at the conference sat down across from me. Joan explained she was hearing impaired. I laughed, and told her so was I. Hence us both seated in front. At the first break I shot a few pictures I plan to use for an upcoming article for an online magazine, "Trips and Journeys." I spoke to another inspiring writer, Bill Schley, who is both blind, and hearing impaired. Bill is a journalist for two magazines. He told me he doesn't allow his disabilities to hinder his writings. I agree. Writing is a challenging profession, in and of itself, and holds many personal rewards. Joan received an honorary award from the college for her writing, on the first day of the conference. I was rewarded by the possitive energy flow of such caring people. A few of the speakers even read some excerpts from their own books. I spoke with one of the speakers, D. Patrick Miller, in regards to self publishing. He encouraged me to self publish, as he claims it's best for being allowed to publish your book your way. I will definitely want to return again next year, only this time I will bring a completed manuscript to show to Laurie Fox, the agent from Linda Chester and Associates. Go To Page: 1
