A Cold Is A Hard Pill To Swallow

Writing (on the norm) usually comes very easy for me. Yet, out of the blue I started to feel overly tired and my throat appeared to suffer a little soreness. I decided to visit my Doctor, Jason Boutros in his Temple City office. He prescribed a packet of antibiotics for me to begin taking on my return home.

Getting a cold doesn't mean my life has to change drastically. Hearing impairment is permanent. While a cold will eventually go away.

The next day I had already planned to join a few of my friends for dinner and a concert. At the dinner, I ordered a pot of steaming hot tea. As the night progressed, my throat was so scratchy I asked a friend for a few cough drops. I then decided to take a few aspirin as well. The next week became even worse, since the cold settled in my chest.

I was confined to sleeping at night in our livingroom on a black chaise longue. One of our three cats (Luv-Ya) our calico kept me company while I was quarantined. I drank plenty of hot tea, ate bowls of chicken soup and swallowed endless amounts of cough syrup everynight.

On Thursday (three days later) my body began to experience some relief from my chest pain. The only reminder of the cold was a small cold sore on my top lip. Gathering all of my remaining energy I rushed over to our local drug store to buy a tube of a medicinal moisturizer for my lip. A few days later, the mark had disappeared completely, I looked like my normal self again.

I realized at that point, the cold had cut down the remaining time I had left to complete this article. I'm happy to say I was done in record time in spite of my battle with my cold. A cold is really a hard pill to swallow.

When you deal with a hearing loss (as many of us do) there's no trick in staying above water. The cold added more weight to an already unbalanced circumstance. Thanks to my Doctor, the antibiotics and a little TLC (Tender Loving Care) I'm on the mend. On the mend is a British expression for feeling alright now.

My hearing impairment doesn't block my creative cycle. I'm grateful for the abilities to pen my observations regarding the world I live in. A lovely woman who inspired me to view life in a humorous light was the late Erma Bombeck. Every year there's a Writing Competition hosted by Washington-Centerville Public Library and a Writers Workshop by the University of Dayton, OH Erma was one in a million!
