Heart Of The Matter

© Jill Ann Smith

Living with a hearing impairment preys on any low spells which occur in my life. Although I try not to let my hearing loss put a damper on my spirit, there will always be an occassional lagging I have no control over. I am fortunate enough to rely on several friends to get me out doing the things I enjoy doing the best.

After all, the extra effort I put out isn't a unique one for anyone who is disabled. Rather than give into bouts of depression (due to my hearing impairment) I get exhilarated from traveling, visiting new places, and learning new lifestyles.

Mixing with others puts a glow into my very being. Moping around is a sure way to head for a downfall. Allowing yourself to experience life at it's fullest will ignite the fires burning in your soul.

The heart of the matter lives within you. Sitting around and complaining won't do anyone any good, especially you. Are you going to let time pass by without giving it any effort? I don't think so.

If you put out some positive force you'll be amazed by the results. I use to complain about the direction my career as a writer was heading. The internet was a God-send. I was afraid to get involved with it until one day I bought WebTv Plus. The best investment I ever made, I can tell you.

The heart of the matter comes from the encourageing words I receive from the many readers of my articles. When I'm feeling low and I need some reassurance, your responses keep me continuing my writing here at Suite 101. I make copies and hang them below the organizers on my desk. Every once in awhile, I glance at those pieces of paper for some extra mileage.

Although the writers conference I'm attending isn't until March, I am preparing some of my writing (making copies to put in a folder) so I may show them to the conference's visiting presenters. I don't want to waste any valuable minutes, when they'll be so many energetic creative people at the conference. Just knowing this event is so close to actually happening warms my heart and lightens my load.

I can't ever measure the importance of the special people in my life. I'm lucky to be able to count on each and every one of them. Enjoy a wonderful Valentines Day all of you. Life has chosen those special people for you to share the bad times and the good together.

Why only one day a year do we celebrate the one we love?
