Generations

Down throughout the generations the world has brought about many advancements for the hearing impaired. Our quality of life is enriched by such marvelous improvement. Lucky for each of us we are living in the new millenium, where we experience an easier lifestyle because of the developements of the times.

Transportation has been hurt a great deal since the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Even the Greyhound bus service (which used to travel to Laughlin, NV) has been newly routed to Bullhead City, AZ. Last Tuesday, I managed to get away for three days before resuming the grind of the festivities. The ride from Los Angeles, to Bullhead City was eight hours long.

On the way up, the weather was very chilly. Arriving in the early evening, passengers were dropped off at a small bus depot on the Arizona side of the Colorado River. My roommate and I met an energetic 75 year old woman named Lorraine Adair. We were all waiting for our shuttles to our respective hotels. Lorraine proclaimed today was her 75th birthday. She was full of vigor and had a great zest for life.

Hearing impairment could hold me back from enjoying life to it's fullest but I don't allow it to happen to me. After talking to Lorraine, we were driven to the Flamingo Hotel by yet another gracious older woman. I was again uplifted a great deal by the few days away from the usual hussle and bussel of my home life.

Of course, at this time of the year, getting back to the tasks at hand which go with the holidays, is also, for me, a very spiritual rise. As company calls, it's great when you can exchange warm remembrances with each other. Although I'm in CA, we partake in decorating the bushes with canned fake snow. Walking in a Winter wonderland.

A disability need not release all the air out of lives balloons. While in Laughlin, we saw a reinactment of the musical trio the Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis, Jr.)

Hearing the songs from the 60's took me back to that beloved generation. The show included a bevy of chorus girls along with those endearing fellows of the past. Revisiting the warmth of times gone by softens the blows of the present.

In view of the days ahead in which we're all facing a small chance to escape is often a blessing. I wish for so many, we can regain the lives we once had not so long ago. Perhaps, it will be possible soon for the upcoming generations.
