One Life At A TimeHealing is a slow process. Bad things occur in life. Some may choose to blame others for such mishaps instead of looking in their own backyard. I'm not claiming to be a psychiatrist or a specialist in the field of psychology. Human nature can teach us so much during our life time. Change will affect the way we perceive others and especially ourselves. I saw a commercial the other day which made me want to do some research. The spokesperson was Marlee Matlin. She was explaining all of the benefits offered at Five Acres, an educational center in the San Gabriel Valley, in Altadena, CA. Their mission is to help children become caring and productive adults. In a world which doesn't offered any guarantees, this program is quite refreshing. I noticed the services for the hearing impaired and deaf include, In-home treatment, foster care, outpatient counseling and parent education in American Sign Language. Why shouldn't children have protection when their young lives can be so easily scarred? In some cases, it really seems the handicapped children get lost in the shuffle of our system. Now, this discrepancy can be avoided. In a world turned cynical, people question any act of kindness. Bringing a young child happiness may be the most important gift you can give. As the holidays are approaching us what would it hurt to reach out and take the time to care about somebody else? You will see how just one such small action can make all the difference in the world to one wee one. I am so glad I was able to write about such a truly unique place as Five Acres. I feel it's so important for society to strengthen it's family life. If we dismiss this issue the future generations will definitely suffer from our lack of responability. Sometimes it seems impossible to rid the world of evil. Yet, we should continue to try and do whatever we're able to do to help make a positive difference in the world. After all, the worse which would happen is your kindness may change the outlook of someone else's life. As for me I know my heart would welcome such an event. I was at a local grocery store shopping when I came across some very different Christmas cards. I read the cards. I was pleased when I finished reading the back of the card. It said, "Olive Crest is dedicated to preventing child abuse, to treating victoms of child abuse and to preserving the family one life at a time." I know I couldn't have phrased it any better myself.
