A Happy Note

After making plans for a meeting which seemed to take forever to happen, the time finally arrived for my roommate and I to meet our online friends, Ann and Joy in Las Vegas. Due to the recent tragedy of September 11, we were able to fly from Los Angeles, CA to our final destination. When purchasing our tickets, we were instucted to arrive three hours early, since now it would take that long to board the plane. We complied.

We checked our two bags in, (which would be stowed under the plane) we then headed for breakfast at McDonalds. Having well over two hours until it was time to actually board our plane. We bought presents for Ann, Joy (her husband) John, and Ann's traveling companion James.

A woman waiting to embark the same airplane as us, walked over to where we were seated and began to explain to us why (she was told) her suitcase had been searched. I continued talking to her. She was very friendly. I asked her to repeat something she had said, as I had not heard her. I made a comment as to my hearing loss. She responded, "I already knew you were, I've worked with deaf people and I know sign language." We (Peggy and I) caught the plane and then took a shuttle ride to our motel.

On Wednesday we were able to meet, for the first time, our new online friends Joy and John who were staying at the same motel. The four of us walked over to the MGM Grand Hotel where we met Ann and James who were waiting for us in their room. As we excitedly exchanged conversation and gifts our first meeting seemed to go off extremely well, and without any problems.

On Thursday afternoon Peggy and I were joined by our California friends Ruth and Rosa. Later on Ann, Joy and James enjoyed a Tom Jones concert (What's New Pussycat), in the same theatre we had seen the Monkees earlier this year. After the show, Ruth, Rosa, Peggy and I rejoined the three of them in front of the theatre. The group of us spent a few more hours together in the lounge before going to our rooms.

While visiting earlier in Ann and James' room Joy told us of a rather frightening experience she had in a Texas Airport on her way in, that very morning. It occurred while transfering planes. Joy and John were inside the airport, and had already checked in through the screening device. When Joy had decided to mail a Birthday card and letter to a friend. Wanting to get the Birthday card out on time for the friend's Birthday. She went back through to the outside to mail her items, she remembered to take her ticket at her husband's request, but had left her purse and therefore her Identification behind with her husband.
