The Right Attitude

Hearing impairment occurs at any age in life.Just this week, Rush Limbaugh, a well known radio personality. Announced to his audience he's become almost completely deaf within the last 3 months. Of course, this would have a great impact on Rush's ability to host his popular show.

The problem began when in May 2001 Rush noticed an occasional hearing loss in his left ear. Later in the month he became completely deaf in his left ear, yet he was able to recognize jumbled sounds in his right ear. Rush commented "for all intents, I am deaf, and it's all happened in three months."

The first hour of his show is dedicated to responses regarding US Military Strikes Against Afghanistan. Rush feels his loss can't be compared to the American Tragedy. He understands, to live in the United States makes him a fortunate man. This comment generates a possitive perspective of a person who like all of us looks at an uncertain future.

The damange to Rush's hearing is due an autoimmune inner-ear disease meaning his immune system inapproprately attacked his inner-ear and damaged the hearing nerve. The cochlear implant would assist by sending an electronic signal to the brain. Dr. Jennifer Derebery, (Rush's Doctor) at the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles, CA states his hearing will never be normal again.

At the news press coverage Premier Radio Networks President Kraig T. Kitchin reported that Limbaugh's Radio Studio now features a special device to transcribe call comments onto a screen. This system is programed to convey the spirit of the caller.

For someone who influences so many people with this brash style regarding the politics of the day, it would be very regrettable for his career to be at an end. I don't believe this will be the case from the expressions made by Rush Limbaugh. His personality is one of self-confidence and a strong desire to continue on with his show.

As with most people who lose their hearing, there will always be feelings of anxiety regarding how our future will change. When the loss appears out of the blue, it can hit like a ton of bricks. What's the use of focusing on the quality of your hearing?

Life holds so many blessings, if you're not blinded by a setback. Reach out and carry on enjoying the wonders of the world. Everyday is a new chance to do so much when you have the right attitude.
