What's In A Noise?

The environment in which we are subjected to, can be very harsh on our ears. The noise tends to exceed any pleasant sounds we enjoy in our daily surroundings. When you are hearing impaired, the calmer tones you were able to hear, are often lost to the overbearing everyday city noises.

Since becoming hearing impaired, I have sought the serenity of the softer sounds more and more. In contrast, the crude acoustics dwell on my sensitive ears causing painful vibrations. I prefer to rid myself of these noisey distractions, yet they seem to be everywhere.

You just can't escape these disturbing tones for very long. So what's the solution to finding a quieter world? Try to enjoy the natural sounds, whenever you are able to get away from the pollution which surrounds us all.

Hearing impairment can be the end result of being exposed to loud noises. Over a period of time, your hearing will diminish. It can go undetected, unless you notice a ringing sensation in your ears. At that time, you should go see an audiologist at once!

I watched an interesting episode of "Judging Amy" last week, where the Judge's mother ( portrayed by Tyne Daly) was assigned at her job( she is a Social Worker) a case in which a young boy is losing his hearing. He was tested by an Audiologist but they can't find anything wrong with his ears.

At first, they are baffled and blame it on his older brother's departure to a boarding school. After visiting the family, she enlists the aid of his older sister. The girl is interested in being a detective and tapes the mother and father's constant verbal abuse. Rather than hear this traumatic situation, the young boy has turned out the noise.

We can't shut down our hearing, like the boy did in his world. Our ears (if we have good hearing) can pick up the sounds (whether loud or not) we have come to accept as part of the norm. Throughout the years, I have noticed at gatherings, just how automatic it is to bury conversation with noises. I guess we are so afraid of having relations, we keep the distance with the noise.

A few days ago, I was at a friend's house for a visit. A friend who lives in Texas, flew in for a meeting. It has been seven and a half years since she in California. She had only been there for a few hours, yet we bonded quite easily in a short time.
