Getting Together

Life can have it's ups and downs. You should never allow your hearing impairment to stop you from having fun. For me, I always feel uplifted whenever my friends and I get together.

Currently, the main event happening this week, is the getting together in Las Vegas, NV for the Finale Concert Tour Of The Monkees (for 2001). For Ruth, Rosa, Peggy and me, the excitement only increased, once we had our tickets in our possession. We left for Vegas on Thursday, March 29th, in the wee hours of the morning and arrived at the San Remo Hotel at 9:00 AM.

We checked into our room, and got settled in. Then it was off to the MGM Grand to visit with our friends Frank and Shaun. Later that evening was the first Monkees Concert at the Hollywood Theatre at 9:00 PM. The thrill of the concerts were exhilerating. The Lounge show included Paul McCartney (our friend Frank) and John Lennon (our friend Shaun), they performed four shows on Thursday from 3:00 PM - 7:45 PM, and then finishing off with The Monkees Show at 10:30 PM.

My difficulties with my hearing impairment were quickly put aside as I became absorbed in all the excitement, of spending this tremendous time with my friends. The capacity to keep up with the others always sends my adrenalin pumping. I'm so wound up with all the enthusiasm, I feel I'm able to accomplish anything I set out to do.

I'm not sure exactly why the energy flow increases at just the right moment, just when I feel I'm about to cave in, I get my second wind. Like the song, "Higher and Higher" says, " I once felt downhearted disappointment was my closest friend, then you came and it soon departed, and I've never felt that way again." The sagging spirit is my hearing loss, but the comfort of friends always lifts me Higher and Higher.

As I stated in one of my previous articles, an even balance between solitude and socializing helps to carry the soul towards a much brighter outlook on life. There will always be low points in our lives, which may dimmer the light just a wee bit. It's then we need to reflect a little, so the load isn't as heavy a burden.

On a related note, the musical world lost a wonderful pioneer of Rock and Roll, John Phillips of the 60's group, The Mamas and Papas on March 18th, 2001. I traveled to Toronto, Canada in 1993 to see my friend David Jones (of the Monkees) and heard the group the Mamas and Papas too, unfortunately John was ill and Scott McKenzie filled in for him. Music is something that I treasure for it helps to keep me navigated on my course in life.
