Hearing Impaired people can accomplish their dreams, the same as hearing people. We must allow ourselves to not let our hearing loss control our lives. It's important to stop playing the victim.
As the end of 2000 is upon us, it can be easy to slip back into the trap of looking for excuses as to why we didn't fulfill our plans for the year. No one can predict a change which can occur in our life in just the blink of an eye. We must try to do whatever is possible to make our lives count while we're alive. I am very fortunate to have some great friends in my life now. They help to keep my spirits high during this holiday season. On December 22nd and 23rd, I went to see a play in which a few of my friends starred. Jennifer Jones was not only the star of the play she also wrote, produced, and directed it. It was called "Christmas With Karen Carpenter". The plot revolves around a Christmas special, hosted by Richard and Karen Carpenter. It was a very nostalgic look at what made the brother and sister team so popular in the 1970's. On stage with the Carpenters were some very recognizable Teen Idols - Davy Jones (The Monkees), David Cassidy, (The Partridge Family) and Micky Dolenz (The Monkees) offering their music, along with a Guardian Angel (Frank Sinatra). I met Jennifer several years ago through mutual friends. I would tell her about my desire to be a writer. She always listened. After the second show, I spoke briefly with Jennifer. Jennifer mentioned this was her first effort at writing a play of this nature. The hard part for her was combining all the characters together in one story line. Whether it's writing, or being hearing impaired, or both, we find life easier when we have a strong foundation around us. Encouragement can make all the difference in the world. Some of us are able to receive the support we need from our families. For my well-being, I can count on the strength I require from my friends. Even though it may not always be possible for us to get together, the time we share is quality. So as this year is ending, I'm able to see a little clearer, the road wasn't quite as rough as it seemed to have been in the past. The smiles come a little easier to my face, and my heart is a little lighter now. Go To Page: 1 2
