Soldiers Of Fortune

The circumstances in our lives can change our status forever. We are all soldiers of fortune, whether we can hear or are hearing impaired. As we honor the Veterans who have sacrificed their lives for their country, it is important we respect the courage they showed so we could keep the freedom and the country we love. Although the laws for the disabled individuals are far from the quality state they could be, they are escalating closer towards the level they should eventually be. In our society today, the tables are turning but it is at a minimal pace. America prides itself for all the advances this country has made. Yet, the rights for hearing impaired citizens are way behind the United Kingdom. For example, there are capitioned theatres throughout the British Isles . The fact is, the similarity between how the Veterans and the hearing impaired are mistreated by our society is deplorable. True, there is a holiday to honor Veterans, but for the rest of the days, their lives are often made to be a mockery. Where as the existance of the hearing impaired in the mainstream doesn't fare much better. For any change to occur in the realm of things, we must actively strive for a new set of rules. How can we just stay quiet when our needs aren't being met? Whether you are hearing impaired or a Veteran whose rights are being misconstrued, you mustn't sit by idly waiting for the laws to be modified. I can remember from my own experiences how this country seemed to forget the soldiers who served so gallantly in the wars. My dad was treated so poorly when he became injured during WWII. During the Vietnam War I was in junior high school. The war was an unpopular war to say the least, causing many men to run away and move off to Canada. A few years ago, I saw an exhibit for the soldiers of the Vietnam War at a local library. Seeing the names of the soldiers bought back sad memories to me. Whether we are hearing impaired or not there's a long road we must travel. Along the way, we will fight many battles. Sometimes we will win our battles victoriously, but the hardest lesson we must face may come from our defeat. Who wouldn't fight to stay on top? I don't know anyone who actually enjoys being a loser, at any game they participate in.
