Accentuate The Positive

Hearing Impairment does change your life. You shouldn't allow yourself to focus on your limitations. I know from my own hearing impairment it often seems easier said than done.

I read about a woman named Dee Herget who worked as a city employee. She quit her job when she lost her hearing. In 1977, Dee changed her life (for the better) when she located a retired Screen Painter.

Dee learned the basics (like brushes and paints to use for Screen Painting) from the gentlemen. She then opened her own business, and paints all round Maryland. That lady painted a rosey picture for herself and set a bright example for all.

As Our Country is celebrating the day we became independent, I thought it would be fitting to discuss what we can do to become more independant, thus bettering ourselves.

I admit I find myself being bogged down with needless insecurity every once in awhile. I go outside and rediscover the beauty, not far from my front door. At the park there is a Gazebo, where once a week during the summer, a different band performs.

Before too long, I begin to wonder, what was bothering me in the first place. Life holds more meaning, when you venture beyond your four walls, and really begin to live it. If you keep dwelling on (the bad) the problems you'll miss all (the good) the solutions.

Another activity I enjoy is to keep a journal. I have several infact, which I've been keeping over all the years. Whenever I'm feeling low, I go back and re-read some of my old entries. I'm surprised by the contents. Wondering how the experiences then seemed so terrible.

I realize every once and a while, I'm chaining myself down, with all those negative feelings. I'm only punishing one person, me.

When I throw away the chains, it's then I'm able to succeed at whatever I'm attempting to accomplish. It shouldn't come as a surprise to me, what the power of believing can truely conquer.

To prove this point, I had begun to slack off with my writing. I felt, I was wasting my time. However, when I applied myself, and sent out a few poems. Carly of "Wild City" told me her publication needed some Summer Poems. I sent her one about our local park. A few days later, she informed me, my poem would be in her July 4th issue of "Wild City", along with a short biography.
