Summertime PerformancesAs Summertime draws near we are making our plans to get away and have fun, whether it is near or far away. On the 17th of June, in Temple City, California, there will be an evening concert in Temple City Park, which I plan to attend. My roommate and I will grab a fold-up chair or a towel and relax in the splender of the music. It's not always easy to enjoy outdoor or inside performances when you are hearing impaired. I found out from Michele Listisard of Kennedy-Center.org about a group of Sign Interpreted performances happening this summer. She asked me if I could send out these dates to other hard of hearing or deaf people, so here they are for your benefit. The first performance will be on June 25th at the Terrace Theater at 3 P.M. The show is called "It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues". This is a musical that traces the history of the American Blues. The numbers include John Lee Hooker and Leadbelly to "Let The Good Times Roll". On June 27th at 7:30 P.M. there will be a repeat performance of "It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues". On July 11th at 7:30 P. M. there will be a presentation of "The Dinner Party" which is written by one of my favorite playwrights, Neil Simon. It will be at the Eisenhower Theater. This comedy will star TV's Henry Winkler and John Ritter. The plot centers around a mysterious dinner party. The reason for the party becomes clear when all the guests arrive. On July 16th there will be another performance of "The Dinner PartY" which is sign interpreted and captioned. On July 25th at 8 P.M. at the Opera House is "The Scarlet Pimpernel". This is a musical drama set during the French Revolution. It is full of daring escapes, blackmail, bribery, deception and lots of laughs. Another performance of this musical-drama will be on July 30th at 2 P. M. For more information call the Box Office at (202)416-8524TYY or (202) 416-4600 VOICE. Be sure to get seats in the house left section of the theater (For Terrace theater it's the house right section) but check with the Box Office to be sure before ordering tickets because that's where the interpreters will be located. The Shakespeare Theater is also offering two free sign interpreted performances of "The Merchant of Venice" on June 16th and 17th at Carter Barron Amphitheater. To reserve your tickets call (301) 598-2111 TTY/V or e-mail sarahjane@erois.com and let her know which date you want to attend and how many tickets you need. You can pick-up your tickets from Sarah Jane Rodman on the night of the performance between 6:15 and 6:45 P. M. Sarah Jane will be at the information table in front of the Carter Barron box office with a sign that says "Shake and Sign". Tickets not picked-up will be released to the general public.
