It's Never Too LateDon't let anybody tell you that you can't do anything. Whatever age, or whatever the circumstances you are facing, don't let them keep you from realizing your dream. All you need to do is to believe in yourself. I read this true story about a woman who goes by the name I.M. Zephyr when she's on America Online. She is deaf and suffers with rheumatiod arthritis. Her dream was to work on a computer. This woman lost her mother after living with her for 30 years. Through the kindness of her sister (who bought her a computer) she was able to change her life drastically. She joined Senior Net which offered a 24 hour chat time. After awhile being in the chatrooms she noticed she began to feel a new confidence. She realized that her deafness didn't matter when she was online. One of the most endearing experiences happened to her when she was having problems with her phone. She mentioned it to another lady and she sent her the number of the local Deaf Resources in Florida. When I.M. Zephyr couldn't make the appointment, this same lady had someone install a telephone with a voice clearifier free of charge in her home. This story touched me so I wanted to share it at Suite 101. I felt very close to this woman, since we have several things in common. Later in the story, she wrote about how she joined the Senior Net writers group. They formed a non-profit publishing company. She was appointed South Eastern Director. Two of the writers in the group put together a collection of their stories, doing all the layout and other work to publish the book. Her first story was called "The Storm" and appeared in the "Catalina Sunrise" which is published in Tuson. She also has several of her poems, a story, and an article published there. The article deals with the difficulties that she has pushing a wheelchair and a grocery basket. I was amazised that all the events occured to this woman in only two years. For the people who enjoy hearing it must be hard for you to imagine just how your life changes when you're Hearing Impaired or deaf. I was inspired by this ladies story. It can inspire all of us no matter where the road we are following is headed. I'd like to address the two special people whos kindness made a difference in this story. I can tell you on a personal level that your kindness meant alot to I.M. Zephyr. It's comforting to reach out and find special people who really care. It is true that kindness is it's own reward.
