My Glorious Vacation

Counting down the days until it was time to go to Las Vegas, was driving me crazy. Finally, March 4th arrived, so my two friends, Peggy and Lauree, and I were able to get away. We had been looking forward to this trip since last August.

At our first hotel, Buffalo Bills, we arrived and checked into our room around 4:00 P.M. After settling into the room, we decided to go to the Luxor IMAX Theatre. The new Disney movie Fantasia 2000 was showing there.

Once we were seated, they announced the movie. In the dark they placed a bar over our seat. If we needed to leave our seat before the allotted time, we were to raise our hand, and the bar would be lifted.

The cartoon was breath taking, the music excilerating. Many familiar faces graced the screen. One of my favorite scenes was Donald Duck, leading the Animals into Noah's Ark to the tune "Pomp and Circumstance."

On Sunday, we stayed at the Flamingo Hilton. We already had our tickets to see two shows of David Cassidy and Sheena Easton at the Copa Room in The Rio Hotel, on Tuesday. Monday through Thursday we finished our vacation at the Boulder Station Hotel. As we stood in line, waiting to be seated in the Copa Room on Tuesday, I'll admit I was very excited to be seeing David Cassidy perform in person. I had never experienced him perform during my teen years, in concert, so I was especially looking forward to this show.

What I saw at the Rio literally blew me away from start to finish. The story centers around the love story of Johnny Flamingo, and Ruby Bombay. David's rendition of Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife," is pulsating. During his Partridge Family hit, "I Think I Love You" he moves throughout the audience. When I told him it was my Birthday, he wished me a Happy one, and proceeded to give me a quick kiss on my ear. I was delighted to hear that David included, Johnnie Ray's song "Cry" near the end of the show. David did this song justice as well.

Sheena Easton's repetoire included, "Morning Train", "For Your Eyes Only" and a spectacular version of "My Man" it sent chills throughout my body. I had only heard Judy Garland sing this particular song before Sheena Easton, and in my opinion, Sheena, did Judy proud in her version. The entire cast was incredibly talented, to me it was the equilivent of attending a Broadway Musical Production.
