I'm no Perry Mason myself, or in the legal field, but it seems as though, it's a small request for the Hearing Impaired to make. All they're looking for is a chance to enjoy the movie with the same benefits as the hearing.
I tried, during my last visit, rear window captioning at Disneyland. I was in a seperate line from the hearing, and I was escorted to my seat by an usher. When I viewed the show, I found it to be extremely helpful. It made my visit to the Magic Kingdom more enjoyable.
It's like the saying, "Until you've walked a mile in another man's shoes, you aren't really able to appreciate what you have." Unless we have a famous person's name or face, attached to a disability, the afflection gets shuffled to the back of our attention.
We need to show more compassion in what we consider to be our countrys priorities. Why has our countries health coverage been so neglected? You'd think since health is a necessity in our life, it would be a top priority for all of us. This country is so advanced, as compared to so many others, yet, sometimes we seem so backwards, in some issues.
Why then do 8 people feel it necessary to sue the 3 movie theatres in order to enjoy something, the rest of us all take for granted. The pursuit of happines, is in the Constitution. Why aren't deaf or Hearing Impaired people considered the same constitutional rights? I hope the judge decides to rule in the favor of these 8 people, after all, discrimination is against the law!
My hope is after you've read this article, you too will begin to understand, how it's the little things that mean alot. We all go to the theatre to escape from lives everyday stresses. You're in the dark and for a couple of hours, your cares are temporarily removed from thought. You get caught up in the entertainment. You gulp your soda, enjoy the popcorn, candy, hot dogs, and ice cream. It would be nice if EVERYONE, could enjoy Hearing the movie as well.
