One voice, all you need is one voice. I love listening to a cassette by a wonderful singer, Coco Heinzelmann. She sings the song "One Voice" written by: Barry Manilow. Coco explains in the cover sleave..."Listen to your inner voice. Keep your heart open, and love yourself. One voice is that voice inside each of us, which when listened to, harmonizes with itself! The voice is love, and trust in yourselves."
I spoke to the woman Jamie Burke who heads the deaf hard of hearing forum. She has some very wonderful insight about what you can accomplish. My questions and her answers follow below. Jill: How did you lose your hearing? Jamie:Rubella, I'm a grown up rubella baby. (Rubella is an infectious disease causing small red spots on the skin). Jill:How long have you headed Delphi's deaf hard of hearing forum? Jamie:Don't remember, it has been a couple of years I think. Jill:Can you relay to the readers, any stories about experiences you've had at this forum, that were either positive or negative. What did you learn from them? Jamie:I enjoy reading the forum and seeing the interesting messages posted by the people. Jill:Could you tell me some of your education and special training that helps you with this forum. Jamie:As stated in my bio page, I have degrees from Galludet University in English, and Computer Information Systems. In between, I also picked up a graduate degree in Public Communication from a hearing college, The American University, plus I have been active on the internet for many years. Jill:I would like you to talk about your family a bit, are they also hearing impaired or deaf? Jamie:I am the only deaf/hearing impaired person in my family. If you are refering to the family that I grew up with, If you mean my husband and kids, my husband is hearing and the kids are deaf. Recently a remarkable lady e-mailed me after she had read some of my articles. Her name is Sassy, she became deaf later in her life. She invited me to visit her website, and read her poetry, it was beautiful. Sassy has an interpreter. She attends church regularly, she's a strong willed, determined woman, who's belief in God keeps her uplifted in her daily life. Music is a blessing. But, what if you're unable to hear the music? I recently read about a Scottish woman, who refused to let her desire to be a solo percussionist fade away. Evelyn Glennie became profoundly deaf at the age of 12 years, she pursued her dream and today she's one of the first classicly trained solo percussionist. What an incredible lady! Go To Page: 1 2
